When I switched from XBMC to Plex, I lost little functionality beyond their beta EyeTV plug-in.
But this was a tough hit to take because I split my time between the two programs: EyeTV for my live TV stuff and Plex for my movies and TV library. Combining the two has always been a dream but doesn’t seem to be in the cards based on El Gato’s total lack of interest in making EyeTV more of a media manager than it already is.
So I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was for Plex to integrate my EyeTV archive into its file structure…and how beautifully it played native EyeTV recordings.
Basically, you add your archive folder as a source under the Video submenu and…that’s it! Navigate into the folder and you can easily playback any of your EyeTV recordings.
Although it’s brutally simple, I’ve made a YouTube video documenting the addition – check it out below and post any questions you end up having.

Thanks for the useful post — but I have a problem. The first thing I tried when I was trying to get Plex to talk to EyeTV was the approach you describe. However, Plex only sees a very few of the hundred or so EyeTV recordings in that folder. The rest it just ignores, for some reason. I’ve re-tried this over and over, without any change in result.
Any ideas?
(BTW — weirdly, there’s no date on your post above, so I don’t know if it’s been there for days or years. Hope you’re still monitoring this forum).
Thanks…
Update to my last post — ok, got it now. I am using Plex 9 and I was adding the EyeTV archive to the sources in the PMS. This works nicely in that it gives all shows proper names, groups them into series, etc. BUT it only finds about 10% of them. What a pain.
If I add the EyeTV archive as a video plug-in, as you have done, then I get all the shows BUT ungrouped with ugly names etc.
Oh well.
