Hello, I'm the developer of Phone Amego, a contemporary Mac Caller ID program available in the Mac App Store. I was google searching for "Mac Caller ID software" and noticed this page containing some outdated information. Mac telephony integration is a seemingly simple idea, but the number of options can be daunting. Phone Amego is unusual in that it is designed to work with all your phones (iPhone, Landline, VoIP, and Google Voice). Well worth a closer look.

The ss7 Signalling that carries the Caller Id always occurs prior to the first ring, Which is why telephone engineers test phones have a special camp on feature which allows you to listen to the line without it appearing in use to the exchange. This means you can hear the data burst prior to the battery pulse that causes the first ring.

Effective Caller Id systems need to be listening all the time for the ss7 data burst.

Hey,

I'm the programmer for ShowCallerID, delighted to see it's made it to this review, even if it's not scored very well. Perhaps one day I'll resurrect it, I like the idea of using Growl for notifications.

Have the same result as you have!

My guess is that in Sweden the CID shows before the first RING!
When I try the modem with ZTerm, the number shows.

AT+VCID=1
OK

NMBR=073XXXXXXX

RING

But not the TIME and DATE!

I gave up, returned the modem!
